THE CLOCK

Writer's picture: Daniel AlberdestonDaniel Alberdeston

1…2…3…swoosh-a-tac…1…2…3…swoosh-a-tac, that’s the sound of my jump rope hitting the floor, as struggle to maintain a good rhythm my mind begins to wonder to the sound of the “tac”, I soon I begin to wonder about my own mortality, and the “tac” sound is the clock of my mortality. A clock moving way faster with each passing day, as I struggle to keep with its pace. This clock doesn’t care if you’re too tired to keep up with its pace it just keeps ticking and tacking. Deep in this nightmarish wonderment I’m dismayed at the reality that my clock and everyone else’s clock for that matter, will continue ticking and a tacking even without you, and when you can’t run as fast anymore. So what then? Be imaginative with your time on this wonderful earth and spend it wisely. It’s not a race against time or time against a race. When you’re imaginative the sound of the clock doesn’t matter and you can almost hear it in the distance. The sound turns into a silent soothing drum. When you surround yourself around those who you love and love you, you don’t just hear this soothing drum, you feel it. Tiny little tingles vibrating all throughout you veins and into your beautiful soul. This is home and I’m safe. Even if your comfort is a pet, just look into your pet’s eye’s, they see more than we do. Right now when there’s no hugging and we’re covered and crouched in a distance, I sure love the hugs and kisses I get from my doggies. It’s so constant and always the same, no if’s and no doubts just love and good loving. I’m not saying that we should love people in the same way as pets love people because that would be an extremely naive statement to make. Mankind has always failed in this respect. The difference is when you truly recognize it, and say…”well tomorrow I’ll give it another go.” The best way to provide love is with patience not only with other’s but with yourself. Be imaginative and imagine your world. Bright shinning lights now is your time to be imaginative. Imagine that that spat with your friend, now really didn’t seem worth it. Imagine how you wish you could hug them. But tomorrow have it another go, safely and give phone call and hug one another via video chat. Share some tears, share some joy. Imagine who you will be at the end of this pandemic, look inside your heart and listen for the soothing drum. You’re loved even when you’re not looking and from a distance. Can you see God and do you know what God looks like? But his love is everywhere and is always there, even when you’re not looking. So I’m I starting to return to that rhythm again, that 1…2….3…swoosh-a-tac and I soon realize my reality. I realize I’ve gone longer than from the time before. I almost got the boxer skip and the fear is soothed. We all make mistakes because we’re not perfect creatures, just have another go tomorrow.
